Gov Inuwa charges Gombe athletes to excel at Asaba 2022

The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has charged the state contingent to the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta State to make the state proud.

The Governor gave the charge in his farewell address to the contingent at the Gombe State Sports Commission hours before their departure to Asaba for the biennial event.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Strategy & Information Management, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara, the governor said “Those of you who are going for the festival are going to represent the state so you have to make us proud.”

He also warned the athletes against the use of performance-enhancing substances during the festival.

“We don’t want a bad name for the state, so you have to conduct yourselves properly and avoid taking performance-enhancing drugs,” he advised.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the sports Commission, Dr Olare Daniel Terry, thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his financial support and approval for the state to attend the sports festival.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, the captain of the basketball team, Matthew Onmonya, also thanked the Governor for his untiring support and providing a conducive atmosphere for them to showcase their talents.

Team Gombe with a contingent of 112 is to feature in 14 events in Asaba.
