Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Saturday flagged off the sales and distribution of fertilizer to farmers in the state for the 2022 wet farming season.
Performing the ceremony at Dukul village in Kwami Local Government Area of the state, the governor said the commodity would be sold at the rate of N19,000 per bag, against the market price of about N25,000.

He cited security issues and other challenges as the reason for the delay in the procurement and distribution of the fertilizer for the 2022 wet farming season.
Governor Yahaya explained that the fertilizer will be supplied directly to the LGAs for onward sale and distribution through the polling units across the state, in order to reach the grassroots.
“Our objective is to ensure that our rural farmers are supplied all the basic farm inputs at their doorsteps without necessarily going through bureaucratic or economic red-tapism associated with the past,” he said.
The governor also appealed to farmers against encroaching into grazing reserves and cattle routes, and also called on herders and pastoralists to avoid grazing on farmlands prior to harvest and evacuation of farm produce.
