Governor of Bayelsa State Douye Diri has donated a new United World Wrestling mat to the state’s wrestlers ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
The state commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Daniel Igali, who represented the governor, said the current administration is committed to the provision of adequate sports facilities for athletes in Bayelsa State.

He explained that as a government that understands the contributions of sports to the development of the society, giving priority to the welfare of athletes would continue to be accorded premium attention.
The president of Nigerian Wrestling Federation stressed that Governor Diri’s desire is to see every association in the state train with state of the art sports facilities as he described the mat as the best in the country.
Igali also announced that the government has approved the reconstruction of a wrestling gym at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa.
Apparently dissatisfied with the State of the swimming pool facility at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, he pointed out that the facility would be given a face lift soon in order to enable the state swimmers get good preparation before going into major competitions.
