Gov Buni’s giant strides in Yobe’s education sector

It is a known fact that the North lags behind in education as reports after reports have shown that the region has the highest number of out-of-school children.

States like Zamfara, Borno and Yobe among others are always being mentioned among those as leading in this sad statistics.

It is very delightful to see that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has taken the bull by the horn. It is gratifying that the governor is changing the sad scenario in Yobe state. Since his assumption to office he has left no one in doubt about his commitment to reviving education in the state.

On assumption of office he declared a state of emergency on basic and secondary education and allocated lion share of the state’s 2020 budget to the sector to develop the foundation of education in the state. Already, he has constructed seven ultra-modern primary and basic secondary schools across the major cities of the state.

The governor has said the education sector is very dear to his administration and would do everything within his power to uplift the standard of education in the state.

Eleven years ago, when the insurgents commenced their onslaught in the Northeast, Yobe State had its share of the disaster in which many schools were destroyed and students massacred.

The situation forced many parents to withdraw their wards from schools in the rural areas while schools in the urban areas were overcrowded.

Governor Buni’s administration believes construction of model schools will help in decongesting pupils in classrooms and increase schools’ enrolment in the insurgency affected areas.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni should therefore be commended for this and other several laudable efforts in revamping the state.
