A rights group, Save Nigeria Movement (SNM), has expressed delight with the commitment of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iornem Alia in fulfilling his social contract and pact with the people of the state in the last one year.

In a press release signed by Rev. Solomon Semaka, the Convener of SNM and made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the group affirmed that Fr. Alia has fulfilled his social contract to the people, saying, he has even exceeded the expectations of average Benue citizens.

“By prudently managing scarce resources and avoiding the wastefulness that characterized the previous administrations, Fr. Alia has, in less than one year, cleared salary and pension arrears owed civil servants for close to a year by the previous administration; constructed and awarded over 200kms of rural and urban roads across the state.

“He had also pioneered the construction of flyover bridges and underpasses in the major towns of the state to ease traffic flow and beautify the state towards bolstering the tourism industry,” he said.

The group commended Alia for working for the people and jettisoning the “primitive culture of political patronage and godfatherism that normalised the wasteful spending and sharing of state resources amongst a few persons, recently christened as stakeholders.”

SNM also hailed the governor for his efforts in the areas of industrial and human capital development which has seen the establishment of new industries such as the state-of-the-art water factory, bakery, fertilizer blending plant, and the revitalisation of Benue Links Limited as well as the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) which have already started absorbing thousands of Benue indigenes in their workforce.
