Gov. Al-Makura presents N13.9bn supplementary bill for 2018 fiscal year

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has presented the 2018 supplementary budget proposal of N13.9billion to the state house of Assembly for consideration and approval.

The Speaker Mr. Ibrahim Balarabe who ordered the Majority Leader of the House, Mr.Tanko Tunga (APC, Awe North), read the governor’s letter during the House proceeding in Lafia.

“The administration of the governor is determined not to leave any project uncompleted at the expiration of his tenure. During the preparation of the 2018 budget, some projects were underfunded and because of their importance to the general public, it has become necessary to request for additional funds to complete them.”

“We are also determined to leave a manageable debt size for the incoming Administration. In line with this philosophy, we have made concerted effort to defray a reasonable amount of the state’s contractual liabilities.”

“Most of these obligations were not adequately funded in the 2018 Appropriation Act as earlier stated, hence, the need to submit the supplementary Appropriation Bill for legislative action.”

“The total supplementary budget requirement for 2018 is N13, 985, 868, 011. This is made up of N3, 175, 521, 871 only for Recurrent Expenditure while N10,810,346,140 only is allocated to fund capital projects.

“The executive urged the House to pass the supplementary budget to enable him complete capital projects for the benefits of the people of the state.

“I commend the members for their mutual cooperation over the years and called for its sustenance.”

However, the speaker slated Nov.27 for the second reading of the bill.

It would be recalled that on November 29, 2017 Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura presented the 2018 budget proposal of N122.8billion to the state House of Assembly for consideration and approval and on January 24, 2018, the House passed the 2018 appropriation bill of N125.4 billion into law by increasing the budget by N2.6billion.
