Gov Abiodun splashes over N33m on victorious athletes

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has splashed over N33m on the state athletes who won medals at the just concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) in Delta State.

 It will be recalled that Team Ogun won a total of 70 medals, comprising 15 gold, 18 silver and 37 bronze medals to finish in the seventh position on the medals table. 

 Abiodun who announced the cash prize at the Oba’s complex during a reception in honour of the athletes, said each of the 15 gold medallists will receive N1m, N500,000 for each of the 18 silver medallists and N250,000 for each of the 37 bronze medallists.

 You’ve done us proud. To that end, I am going to be supporting and encouraging all our gold medallists with N1m each, all 18 silver medallists will get N500,000 each, while our 37 bronze medallists will go home with N250,000 each.

“All those that went and didn’t win a medal, we will also appreciate you. To encourage you, we will give each of you N100,000,” he said.

He also said coaches who were responsible for Team Ogun’s success at the sport festival will be rewarded as well.

“Our coaches will not be left out. The coaches that are looking after you, we will also look after them as well so they can be further motivated and inspired to continue to work as hard as they’ve done that have allowed you to win all these medals,” said Abiodun.
