Gombe varsity gets 10 new professors, 13 readers

The governing council of the Gombe State University (GSU) has approved the promotions of 10 academic staff to the rank of professors and 13 senior lecturers to the rank of readers.

The Registrar and secretary to the council, Dr Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, in an internal memo, said the approval came at the end of Council’s 48th regular meeting, and based on favourable external assessment reports.

He said the 23 promoted staff were from various areas of specialisation from 19 academic departments in the institution.

According to him, the 10 newly promoted professors are Dr Iliya Jalo (Professor of Neonatology), Dr Sani Adamu (Professor of Toxicology and Nutrition), Dr Danladi B. Adamu (Professor of Community Oncology and Epidemiology), Dr Halima M. Abba (Professor of Plant Ecology and Physiology), Dr Hankouraou Seydou (Professor of Medical and Environmental Physics) and Dr Danladi M. Umar (Professor of Freshwater Ecology).

Others are Dr Lazarus Abore Mbaya (Professor of Biogeography and Geomorphology), Dr Kennedy P. Yoriyo (Professor of Applied Parasitology and Entomology), Dr Bulus Wayas (Professor of Genre Analysis Socio-Linguistics) and Dr M.M. Manga (Professor of Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control).

The 13 senior lecturers promoted to the rank of readers are Dr Isaac E. Warnow (Paediatrics), Dr Bala Modi (Computer Science), Dr Nasiru Y. Pindiga (Chemistry), Dr Ahmadu B. Muhammad (Mathematics), Dr Muhmmad A. Tukur (Microbiology), Dr Yusuf Nigel Bachama (Economic) and Dr Lukman Ojedele Lawal (Accounting).

Others are Dr. Hassana Y. Bello (Sociology), Dr Umar Adamu (Public Administration), Dr Lawal O. Abdullahi (Public Administration), Dr Muhammed L. Madugu (Physics), Dr Aliyu Alhaji Abubakar (Business Administration) and Dr Yarma Adamu Ahmed (Microbiology).
