The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Gombe State University (GSU) suspended its six weeks strike, on Thursday.
Chairman of the ASUU-GSU branch, Dr Suleiman Salihu Jauro, in a statement said the decision to suspend the strike was a result of an agreement reached between the Gombe state government and the union.
Daily Trust reports that academic staff at the GSU had declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike on September 11, over a number of demands ranging on funding and welfare issues.
However, after a series of meetings, the state government approved N947 million to offset staff promotions, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and other allowances owed to both academic and non-academic staff of the institution.

“The ASUU-GSU today at its congress meeting reviewed the agreement reached between the Gombe state government and the union. The branch subsequently suspended the total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action embarked upon on September 11, 2024 with immediate effect,” Dr Jauro said in the statement.
He, however, called on the government to fulfil other components of the new agreement.
The ASUU chairman also expressed appreciation to the media and members of the public, “for the solidarity given to ASUU throughout the duration of the struggle.”
