Remo Stars’ 11-match unbeaten run in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season came to an end Sunday after they were beaten 1-0 by Gombe United in the week 12 fixture played at the Pantami stadium Gombe.

Yahaya Ibrahim scored the only goal of the match in the 15th minute when he fired a powerful left-footed strike past Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole.

Apart from their unbeaten run which was halted, the loss also took Remo Stars down from the second position to third with 23 points while Rivers United who had whipped Wikki Tourists 3-0 on Saturday to stay on top of the table with 25 points.

Rivers United are closely followed by former champions, Plateau United who stunned Kano Pillars 1-0 yesterday in Kaduna to move to second position on the log with 24 points.

At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, Plateau United left it late to shock the ‘Sai Masu gida’ boys as Sunday Anthony’s perfect header in the 84th minute was enough to pull down Pillars.

Elsewhere, Oladayo Alabi’s goal in the 80th minute failed to stop youngster Ifeanyi Ogba’s brace from winning the maximum points for Lobi Stars in Makurdi.

Former Nasarawa United striker, Ugochukwu Leonard and Michael Tochukwu scored a goal each as Sunshine Stars and Nasarawa United battled to a  1-1 in Lafia while Rangers fought back to top Abia Warriors 2-1 in the ‘Oriental derby’ in Nnewi.

In Uyo, Heartland’s goalkeeper Femi Thomas was the hero as he saved two penalties in quick succession to earn his relegation-threatened side a point in the 0-0 draw with champions Akwa United just as former CHAN Eagles striker, Sunday Faleye came off the bench to score as 3SC defeated Dakkada FC 1-0 in Ibadan.
