The newly appointed Chairman of Nigeria National League side, Gombe United, Dr. Larry Daniel Terry (Olare) has promised to partner with corporate organisations to help improve the fortunes of the club.
Speaking to Daily Trust he reiterated that the private sector would play key roles in his plans to return Gombe United to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
He said being a former football player, he recognises the fact that players are the key actors in the game and he would do everything possible to motivate his players.
Terry, therefore, revealed that even at the height of COVID-19 pandemic when some clubs placed their players on half salaries, players of Gombe United collected full salaries.
“We have mapped out plans to partner with some corporate organisations for more funding.
“Football business is capital intensive so we won’t like to over-depend on the government. We have to source for funding to augment whatever is coming from the government.
“The target is to return Gombe United immediately to the NPFL. We can only achieve this if we have enough resources to motivate the players and prosecute our matches,” he said.
The chairman also said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has promised to give the management all the necessary assistance to ensure the club gains promotion.
He added that there are plans for the establishment of a football academy for the club, if Gombe United are promoted to the NPFL.
The chairman then appealed to fans of the club to be good
supporters at all times and urged them not to cause havoc or resort to hooliganism whenever Gombe United are beaten whether home or away.
