Gombe United are celebrating the appointment of their present General Manager, Abubakar Abubakar, popularly known as ‘Dan Fulani,’ as the new Coordinator of Nigeria’s U-20 men’s national football team, the Flying Eagles.
His appointment comes as the team prepares for the much-anticipated WAFU U-20 tournament in Togo.
Abubakar, an experienced football administrator, has served at the helm of several top Nigerian clubs, including Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Gombe United.
His extensive expertise and leadership have contributed to remarkable successes at both the domestic and national levels.

In a statement released by the club’s media officer, Shu’aibu Muhammad (Angazi), Gombe United praised Abubakar’s accomplishments in football management.
His collaboration with the current Head Coach of the Flying Eagles Head coach Aliyu Zubairu, during their time at Gombe United was particularly highlighted, as their efforts helped secure the club’s promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), underscoring his strategic acumen.
The club reiterated that Abubakar’s deep knowledge of Nigerian football and proven leadership qualities make him a vital asset to the team as they gear up for the tournament in Togo.
“This news has further boosted the morale at Gombe United, as we celebrate one of our own who will be leading the national team into a significant competition.
“With Abubakar’s guidance, the Flying Eagles are expected to approach the tournament with renewed confidence and determination,” said Gombe United.
