The Director-General of Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS), Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan, has said the launch of the Gombe Capital Special Development Zone was to boost the state’s Internal Revenue Generation and woo investors into the state.
Speaking at a capacity workshop for staff and stakeholders in the state, the DG stated that the zone, which would be carved out within the metropolis, was created with the aim to construct befitting infrastructure that would attract investors and provide basic amenities for its citizens.
“This social infrastructure for we are proving would make the state livable and industrious with a digital standard that would bolster our IGR. This magnificent and first-of-its-kind event will serve as a platform for both Government authorities, Traditional leaders, Lawmakers, Civil servants, and key stakeholders contributing to the consolidation of the state government’s efforts in strengthening the land administration to share ideas and chat a way forward to addressing the lingering problems associated with land matters in the State.”
While lamenting that land administration was hitherto in jeopardy in the state as it was filled with insincerity and abuse to civil service ethics, he noted that the vision of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa was to reform the land administration in the State, with the establishment of GOGIS.
He added that the service would help in, “compiling and collating geospatial information in the state, providing digital delivery and management of survey information, cadastral maps and data sets in a well-structured GIS environment and processing of grants of statutory right of occupancy (C of O).”
He, however, decried the challenges facing the service which he identified as a public failure to realize the potency of the impact of its activities as it embarked on layouts audit across the 12 designated areas to fish-out road blockades and distortions.
In his remark, Governor Inuwa emphasized that a good land administration system would help to improve urban planning and support infrastructural development and proper environmental management.
