Gombe State Special Taskforce on COVID-19 has said the state has recorded its first death from Coronavirus.
Chairman of the taskforce, Professor Idris Mohammed, disclosed this to newsmen yesterday.
He said the deceased, a 50-year-old who has high blood pressure died around 4 pm on Sunday from complications related to the COVID-19.
He said the deceased concealed his status but the taskforce’s attention was drawn by a neighbour who noticed that he (the deceased) was seriously ill after he returned from Bauchi State.
According to him, his samples were taken and returned positive after which he was rushed to an Isolation centre at Kwadon Infectious Disease Hospital for treatment.
“But his condition deteriorated on Sunday; he developed a stroke on one side of his body, and was taken to the COVID-19 ICU at the Specialists Hospital, Gombe, where he passed on around 4 pm,” he said.
Prof Idris revealed that the state has 118 active cases of COVID-19 from 1,168 tests conducted at the laboratory of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abuja.
