Gombe State Police Command Thursday paraded one Hyelni Danlami Buba, 48, an officer of the Nigerian Navy over alleged criminal breach of trust, cheating and intimidation.
Parading the suspect before newsmen, Commissioner of Police, Ishola Babaita, said the command had on March 25 received a letter of complaint from one Jacob Mshelia of Tumfure Quarters who accused the suspect of defrauding him the sum of N1.5 million.

He said the complainant accused the suspect of deceitfully collecting the money from him in disguise to set up a business, which was paid into two different accounts on January 1 and February 31, 2020.
Babaita added that the suspect promised to pay the money within a short time, “but he later reneged, betrayed the trust, intimidated the complainant and blocked all possible means of communication.”
He stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have collected the said amount from the complainant and revealed that he was an officer of the Nigerian Navy.
The CP said further investigation revealed that the suspect, was a Lieutenant Commodore and served as Executive Hydrographic Unit, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, but had deserted the service and was already on the wanted list of the Nigerian Navy.
He explained that the suspect was then hand over to the Nigerian Navy, who tried and dismissed him and subsequently handed him back to the police for prosecution.
He said the suspect would be charged appropriately after concluding the ongoing investigation.
