GOMBE: Police arrest killer of professor, 9 others

Police in Gombe said they had arrested the suspected killer of a lecturer with the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe, Professor Simon Ocheme Apakwu.

Professor Apakwu’s body was found in pool of blood at his residence on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Parading the suspect alongside 10 others yesterday in Gombe, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Tairu Olukolu, said the suspect, one Simon Oluche, 25, who was the driver of the deceased, allegedly killed him and fled with his car, personal belongings and an unspecified amount of money.

Olukolu said the command in collaboration with other security agencies in Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states trailed and arrested Oluche on September 18, 2018 in Jos, Plateau State while attempting to dispose the car.

The police said Oluche was privy to information that the professor was paid some amount of cash by the university, therefore he invited friends who helped him plan and execute the crime.

The police commissioner said the police were on the trail of the fleeing accomplices to arrest and bring them to face justice.

In an interview with newsmen, Oluche, a graduate of Public Administration from the Plateau State Polytechnic, however denied killing his boss.
