Gombe: PDP, APC trade blames over rigging plot

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State said it has uncovered a plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the March 18 governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Gombe, spokesman of the PDP Campaign Council, Mr Ayuba Aluke, alleged that APC had perfected plans to compromise the elections in the state in its favour.

Aluke alleged that the APC was desperate to win elections at all cost through vote-buying, intimidation and compromising the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) to get the result that they wanted.

The PDP campaign spokesperson said his party would continue to take all available legal means towards addressing its concerns while urging its supporters to remain calm and come out on Saturday to vote massively for the PDP.

Reacting, spokesman of the APC Campaign Council, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the PDP was frightened by the sterling performance of Governor Yahaya.

He said the PDP had resorted to propagating falsehood knowing that its chances at the polls were bleak.

He said, “As far as we are concerned, there is no plan to rig any election. So, all these are concoctions of facts by the PDP, knowing fully well that they are bound to lose the election and may not have anything to show to the public.”

Misilli added that the PDP was only peddling falsehood to attract goodwill for itself or to score cheap political points.
