The Mai Tangale chiefdom in Gombe state, Dr Abdu Buba Maisharu II, has died late Sunday evening at the age of 72, the state government confirmed on Monday in a statement.
According to the statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the late monarch died after a brief illness at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe.

“We regret to announce the death of the 15th Mai Tangle, Dr Abdu Buba Maisheru II who died on Sunday, January 10, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 72 years at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe,” the statement said.
The government described the sudden death of the paramount ruler as a monumental loss to the Tangale Chiefdom, the state and the nation as a whole.
Prof. Njodi prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and condoled with members of the late monarch immediate family, the Tangale chiefdom and the entire people of the state.
Dr Maisharu II was a first class monarch presiding over the Tangale Chiefdom with headquarters in Billiri LGA of the state.
He was tested positive for COVID-19 in May 2020, but he was treated and recovered after 12 days.
The statement added that burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
