Gombe imposes curfew on communities over communal clash

Gombe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Nyuwar, Jessu and Yolde communities in Balanga Local Government area of the state with immediate effect.

The Secretary to the state Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who made the announcement on Tuesday, said the decision followed the violence that led to loss of lives and destruction of properties.

According to him, the curfew became necessary to douse the tension and restore peace and order.

Prof. Njodi said security personnel have been deployed in the area, adding that the curfew will remain until further notice.

Daily Trust learnt that violence erupted late Monday between the three towns, located along the Gombe-Yola federal highway.

It was also gathered that hundreds of residents have fled and sought refuge in the neighbouring communities.
