Gombe gov urges FG to repair collapsed Gombe-Bauchi Road

Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, yesterday called on the federal government to immediately repair the washed-away portion of the Gombe-Bauchi Road.

Daily Trust reports that part of the road was washed away and became inaccessible following downpours last Sunday, thereby exposing motorists plying the road to risk.

Speaking with newsmen after inspecting the failed portion of the road, the governor expressed concern for the safety and well-being of people of the North East zone, especially the two states.

“We cannot afford to ignore the critical role this road plays in our socio-economic development. This road links Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba and parts of Borno states,” he said.

He assured the people of the state that the government will do everything in its power to ensure that the road is fixed within the shortest possible time.

Yahaya urged the federal government to prioritise the repair of the road in consideration of the pressing needs of the people.

He added that the road requires reconstruction rather than rehabilitation, saying the road is nearly 50 years old and needs to be completely reconstructed.
