Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has directed the dissolution of the governing councils of all the six state-owned tertiary institutions.

The Commissioner of Information and Culture, Alhassan Ibrahim Kwami disclosed this on Monday while briefing newsmen at the end of the state’s executive council meeting.

The affected institutions are: Gombe State University, Gombe; State University of Science and Technology, Kumo; State Polytechnic, Bajoga; College of Education, Billiri; College for Islamic and Legal Studies, Nafada and the College for Health Technology, Kaltungo.

The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr Meshak Lauco, said the governing councils were dissolved by the governor based on the laws establishing the institutions.

He said new governing councils would be appointed soon to oversee the affairs of the institutions.

If needed, he said a committee would be set up to look into their books for possible embezzlement or misconduct.

On his part, the Commissioner of Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Bappah said the council has approved the award of new and ongoing projects for the construction of roads and bridges across the 11 LGAs of the state.

The projects were awarded at the cost of N4 billion, he added.
