Gombe Assembly shuts down for 3 weeks over Covid-19

The Gombe State House of Assembly on Wednesday announced the suspension of all legislative activities for three weeks.

The Speaker, Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim said the suspension is to complement the state government’s efforts towards taking proactive measure against the spread of the pandemic Covid-19 in the state.

A statement issued by assembly’s Chief Information Officer, Abubakar Mohammed Umar, said all staffs at the assembly and the House of Assembly Service Commission are directed to stay at home beginning from Wednesday March 25 to Tuesday April 14.

The statement said the decision was arrived at after speaker’s meeting with Principal Officers, considering that the Assembly is opened to the public and therefore prone to possible spread of the virus, hence the need to shut it down for a while.

“The leadership of the House is concerned about the welfare and safety of its workers and the entire people of the state and therefore strongly advised people of the state to follow the measures put in place by governments at all levels to contain the spread of the coronovirus,” part of the statement read.

The speaker called for extensive public enlightenment on the symptoms of the disease and the self-preventive measures needed to be taken.
