…Want tournament taken round Nigeria

It was praises galore for Media Trust Limited last Saturday as participants at the 2021 Daily Trust Golf Tournament commended the organisation for staging a hitch-free tournament.

The one day event which was held at the 18-hole Ibom Golf Icon Club, Uyo, Akwa Ibom attracted nearly 200 amateur golfers with Unyime Okon and Helen Ayo emerging the overall best players in the male and female categories respectively.

A Kano based golfer, Arc Moddibo Adamu, who urged Media Trust Limited to take the tournament round the country, said he had to reschedule his journey just to play in the tournament.

“Sincerely speaking, I must commend the organisers. If I’m not mistaken, I was among the first to pay from Kano when I saw the advert in October. I had to postpone my journey because I wanted to play.

“The organisation was superb. The kits we were given were excellent. One can wear the shirts anywhere. I want to encourage Daily Trust to sustain this and even increase the tempo. They should go round the country,” he said.

A former Kogi State governor, Capt Idris Wada (rtd), who won the prize for the veteran best net urged Daily Trust to take the game round the country to help erase the notion that the game is for elites alone.

“I want to commend Media Trust Limited and I urge them to keep it up. They should take it round the country to help promote the game in Nigeria and will encourage more people to play. Golf is just a beautiful game,” he said.

The captain of the host club, Rt. Hon. Usenobong Akpabio, said Daily Trust has set the pace for other media houses to join.

“I want to thank Media Trust Limited for what they have done. I just wish other publishing outfits could do the same. If you think golf is not a sport, then you can take it as entertainment because going in there and playing 18-holes must be entertaining,” he said.
