Goje launches ‘zero hunger’ scheme in Gombe

The Senator representing Gombe Central, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, has launched the distribution of foodstuff to over 4,000 People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in his constituency.

The project, tagged “Zero Hunger”, is to alleviate poverty among the vulnerable and PLWDs in the senatorial district, comprising Akko and Yamaltu-Deba LGAs.

Flagging off the distribution Sunday at his Gombe residence, Senator Goje, represented by the Secretary of the scheme, Abubakar Sadiq Kurba, said over 4,390 PLWDs from the two LGAs were targeted to benefit from the exercise.

Hon Kurba, who is a member in the state’s House of Assembly, explained that each beneficiary would receive a plastic box containing rice, beans, noodles, palm oil, groundnut oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste and wrapper.

He added that the PLWDs were selected to benefit from the scheme to bring succour to them being the most downtrodden members of society.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the state’s Chairman of PLWDs, Umar Ali Goro, commended the senator for the gesture.

Goro also sought for employment opportunities for PLWDs in the state and the establishment of a special centre to empower them with vocational skills.
