Goje brought killer thugs to Gombe – Gov Yahaya

Gombe State Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya on Tuesday alleged that Senator Danjuma Goje brought killer thugs popularly known as Kalare to the state.

He was addressing reporters at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Goje’s convoy was on Friday attacked by suspected political thugs while he was visiting Gombe to attend a wedding.

Governor Yahaya told reporters in Abuja on Tuesday that the security situation in the state was calm.

He alleged: “The issue we had before now was caused by a former governor of the state, Danjuma Goje, a serving senator, who you all know.

“He tried causing mayhem, and the people resisted that but as a result of the skirmish that ensued, lives were lost and some people’s properties were destroyed.

“That’s what we as a government are kicking against. Everybody knows he was the one that brought the killer thugs known as Kalare in Gombe but as the governor of the state, I’ll not tolerate Kalare and whoever is involved in Kalare activities, no matter how highly placed, we’ll stop him and we’ll end Kalare by the Grace of God.”

On Goje’s accusation that some officials of Gombe State Government were threatening his life, the governor said an investigation would reveal the truth.

Asked whether their fight had to do with his re-election bid in 2023, he said only God knows if both he and Goje would be alive in 2023.

On his part, Goje has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami over alleged assassination attempt on his life and his personal Assistant, Adamu Manga by an aide-de-camp of governor Yahaya, SP Zulaidaini Abba and Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Sani Bajoga.

Goje, through his lawyer, V.C. Nwadike, asked the IGP to investigate the matter and prosecute the officers involved after disciplinary action had been taken against them.
