Going ahead with LG poll is invitation to anarchy, Kano APC tells Gov Yusuf

Chairman of the All progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has asked the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to obey the court ruling stopping the conduct of local government elections in the state tomorrow.

On October 22, 2024, a Federal High Court in Kano restrained Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), from conducting the October 26 LG poll.

In his ruling, Simon Amobede, the presiding judge, said Malumfashi is “unqualified” to conduct the election because “he is a card-carrying member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).”

But speaking on Thursday while presenting the flags to candidates of the NNPP at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Governor Yusuf said nobody can stop KANSIEC from conducting the election.

Reacting in a statement on Friday in Abuja, the APC chairman in he state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, cautioned Governor Yusuf to desist from taking any action that could lead to breakdown of law and order in the state.

The APC called on the state government to adhere to the directive of the court, noting that the call by the governor on NNPP supporters to ignore the court directive was a “clear case of invitation to anarchy and lawlessness.”

The APC said, “The governor should simply respect the laws. As law-abiding citizens interested in the growth of our dear state of Kano, the governor should desist from any act that could throw the state into chaos. Inciting people to take the laws into their hand is not the hallmark of good leadership.”
