Godfatherism will no longer work in APC – Chairmanship aspirant

A contender to the office of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chairmanship from Adamawa State, Sunny Sylvester Moniedafe, has vowed that godfatherism will no longer be allowed in the party.

Speaking with some stakeholders of the party on Wednesday in Abuja as part of his consultations, Moniedafe said it was time to change the narrative and do things right for the progress of the party.

He said godfatherism would not work in the choice of the party’s national chairman at its next national convention.

He added that the tradition where former governors and senators are given an upper hand in the scheme of things should be discouraged.

“It is time for the APC to do the right thing. Let us change the narrative. I have a deep desire to unite the party and Nigeria.

“I will heal many wounds in the APC as chairman of the party. There is a need to make Nigeria better. Godfatherism will no longer work in APC.

“APC does not have a BOT which should be the conscience of the party six years after clinching power. As a result, crises within the party festers.

“It’s only in Nigeria that a person goes to bed a pauper, and wakes up a millionaire just because he has a political godfather or grandfather somewhere. Please, join me and let’s stop this Frankenstein Monster being created from being unleashed on the nation,” he said.

Moniedafe said the worsening crisis in the ruling party was due to the absence of a Board of Trustees (BoT).

Our Correspondent reports that, unlike the leading opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling APC has no BoT in place, which should be the conscience of the party and platform upon which grievances could be stemmed.

Other contenders for the office of the APC national chairman are; a former governor of Borno State, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff; a former governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura; a former governor of Benue State and current Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Sen George Akume; a former governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje; a former governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda and a former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima among many others.
