A former Commissioner for Youth Empowerment in Gombe State, Faruk Yarma, says godfatherism and desperation by politicians to remain in power and are affecting Nigeria’s democratic development.
Yarma stated this Monday while featuring on Trust TV’s political programme, Daily Politics.

“The real situation is the desperation of the politicians to be in that particular office and godfatherism. Before you come in, you have your own godfather such that even if you did not perform well in the electioneering campaign, he will recommend you.
“So, when you become a commissioner by that particular process, the governor will not respect and give you all the necessary support and backing you need to succeed,” he said.
