Gigbe: FCT community where women go for antenatal in Niger

Residents of Gigbe community of Gawu Ward in Abaji Area Council of the FCT have lamented over the dilapidated state of the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in the area.

They said that the PHC which was the only health facility that served the people of the community had remained in a dilapidated state for a long time.

A resident, Usman Yakubu, said that patients, especially pregnant women, travelled to Gawu or Lambata communities in Niger State to access healthcare.

Another resident, Danjuma Adamu, said, “This is the only PHC we have in this community, but it is in a deplorable state, and our women have to travel to Gawu or Lambata for antenatal care.”

A health personnel at the PHC, Aliyu Gambo, complained that the centre lacked enough manpower, noting that he was the only staff that attended to patients.

He further said, “Whenever it rains, water will fill the whole place. I have written a letter to the authorities concerned but nothing has been done.’’

No immediate response from the officials of the Abaji Area Council on the condition of the PHC.
