Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has warned candidates in Ghana’s December 7 presidential elections against violence.
In a letter addressed to the leaders of Ghana’s leading political parties, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obasanjo urged the key players to ensure the peace and stability of the West African country.
In the presidential polls, the incumbent President and NPP candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo will be facing John Mahama of the NDC, a replica of what played out in 2016 election. Akufo – Addo had in 2016 defeated Mahama as incumbent president in 2016.
As the country prepares for the December 7, Obasanjo urged parties and their candidates to play by rules and avoid actions capable of plunging the western African country into chaos.
In a letter to the leaders of the parties, copies which were made available to newsmen by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Saturday, Obasanjo sought for building efforts aimed at enhancing mutual trust and confidence among themselves in the relevant national institutions and in the electoral process.
The letter dated November 20, was titled “Letter to the leadership of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) on ensuring peaceful, credible and transparent general elections on 7 December, 2020 in Ghana.”
The former for Nigerian President prayed and wished that the country should be a winner irrespective of the party that wins the election, noting that, with his humble voice, the region and the continent would count on their patriotism during and after the election.
