The Wigan goalkeeper defied pains in his thigh strain to deny the Super Eagles victory at the 11 November Stadium in Luanda.

The 32-year-old, who is making his fifth Nations Cup appearance, said he was ready to die for his country at the peril of his career.

“I was not fully fit, but I promised the team that I would do anything to ensure we qualified. I sacrificed for the team even if I won’t be able to play in the final.

“I’m not a left footer and I rarely use my left. It was perfect today and was crucial.

“During the first half I was having some thigh troubles, which I sustained during the match against Angola, and was not totally fit. But I promised my boys that I would do anything for them even if today was to be the end of my career, I would do it for them to go to the final, even if I cannot be there. So today I sacrificed myself for the guys,” Kingson said in a post-match interview.
