One of the family members was rescued and rushed to a hospital and later taken to another hospital as he remained unconscious.
The residents became apprehensive and many people fled the area to avoid being killed by the said evil spirits.
Some of the residents of the area also claimed that they perceived the odour of chemical in the house where the family members died.
However, the traditional ruler of the town, the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Afolabi, said findings made by a palace delegation that visited the scene indicated that the family members might have been killed by generator fumes.
Also, the police spokesman in Osun, Yemisi Opalola, said detectives deployed to the scene reported that the family used a generator and that this could be responsible for their deaths.
She said an autopsy would be conducted to ascertain the real cause of their deaths, and therefore appealed to the residents of the town not to panic.
