General Alkali: Police to prosecute 19 suspects soon

The Police, on Sunday, paraded 19 suspects in connection with the murder of the immediate past Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters Major General Idris Alkali.

The suspects would soon be charged to court, Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna said.

Terna said, while parading the suspects, that 13 had earlier been transferred to the police by the military for knowing about the crime but concealing it while the remaining six suspects were among the eight persons declared wanted by the police in connection with the murder of Alkali.

He said investigations was ongoing and that samples from the remains of Alkali had been taken by medical and forensic experts before his burial on Saturday.

The Police spokesman said though two persons on the Police wanted list were still at large, one of the suspects, Stephen Chuwang had confessed he was among the persons who exhumed the body of the retired senior military officer from ‘No man’s land’ in Doi-Du on September 29 and relocated it to Gushwet in Shen district.

He said Chuwang, whom Police records earlier described as 46, a surveyor and business man, had led detectives to the well where the remains of the general were recovered.

“Mathew Chuwang Rwang, the youth leader of Doi-Du had also been mentioned by Stephen Chuwang as one of those who exhumed the corpse of retired General Alkali and relocated it,” he said.

The Police spokesman also said Pam Gyang Dung who is 53 years old and the Maianguwa of Latiya in Du is said to be the husband of Rebecca Gyang who is also in Police custody for leading other women in a protest to stop the army from exploring the Dura-Du pond where Alkali’s vehicle was recovered.
