Music-industry freelance platform, Gemtracks Beats, has finally opened its doors to Nigerian music producers.

For over five years, producers around the world have been selling their instrumental beats on the platform to indie singers and record labels.

Founded in 2017 by DJ Jesse Neo, an Australian-American music producer and technologist, the website started out as an online store to sell the DJ’s own music, such as pop beats and rap beats.

However, after seeing an increased demand in the market for outright beats, and the desire for other producers to sell their beats, Gemtracks eventually became a public marketplace.

“The vision I have for Gemtracks is to let anyone that wants to be in the entertainment industry to find talents they can hire and collaborate with,” Jesse told us.

“This way, no matter where you are located in the world, you will still the get the equal opportunity to offer your services and hopefully release the song you have created.”

Other than beats, Gemtracks allows freelancers to advertise music services they can offer, such as recording an instrument, mixing a song or even writing lyrics.

According to a recent interviewed published in Business Insider, Gemtracks is most likely to benefit Africans the most.

“I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel to many countries,” Jesse continued.

“Nigeria is one of my favourite places to visit because I am always awestruck by the lovely people and culture, especially the musicians that seem to exist in every corner.

“I hope with Gemtracks, Nigerian musicians would be able to pave their way into international stardom by working with other musicians abroad.”

The best part is that the freelancer is free to set their own prices and terms.

This means the freelancer can have the rights to show their name in the credits once the song is released.

This could have a big impact if the buyer is already an established singer in America.
