Gbajabiamila distributes 1,020 laptops to teachers, principals

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Saturday, distributed 1,020 laptops to teachers and principals of secondary schools in his Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.

At the constituency outreach programme held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Saturday, the Speaker also donated 145 vehicles to constituents while 351 young constituents who are students in public tertiary institutions across the country got education grants.

Addressing the gathering of his constituents including All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and dignitaries, Gbajabiamila restated his passion for education, saying the gesture would improve the learning environment.

He said the laptops and the ICT gadgets would aid the teaching and learning of ICT for students.

He said, “Our responsibility as legislators is to feel the pulse of our constituents and work to address their needs. I have always had a passion for education and have tried to focus on touching the lives of students and teachers in our constituency. Just yesterday, I commissioned several ICT centres and newly renovated school buildings around our constituency.

“This follows the numerous infrastructural projects we have attracted to this constituency and neighbouring constituencies. From roads to new hospitals, from ICT infrastructure in all public tertiary institutions to facilitating numerous employment for our youth, as well as numerous political appointments for improved representation of our people in government.”

The Speaker tasked the beneficiaries of the vehicles mostly for e-hailing services to make judicious use of the items to improve their economic wellbeing.

He specifically acknowledged one of the beneficiaries of the car who got one in 2020 and was able to buy another one to boost his e-hailing business.

“I am glad to use him as a shining example to some of you who might have conceived the idea of selling your cars. Today, Saheed Okunu will be encouraged with another e-hailing car to boost his growing e-hailing business.”

State APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, said the speaker had succeeded in delivering dividends of democracy to members of his constituency.

Ojelabi urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate by supporting the ruling party in subsequent elections.

Also speaking, Obanikoro said the Speaker had done beyond the expectation of the people of his constituency.
