A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a 20-year old gateman, David Emmanuel, in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ado- Ekiti for raping a primary five pupil.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, said the gateman was reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of rape on the primary five pupil at Onigari area of Ado-Ekiti on April 4th.

The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under Section 31 of the Child’s Right Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Inspector Adejare said granting the application will allow completion of police investigation while the duplicate case file shall be forwarded to office of Director of Public Prosecution, DPP for legal advice.
The prosecutor said the victim was sent by her mother to buy foodstuff for her and on her way back, she saw the defendant where he was working as a gateman.
‘’When she greeted him, he held her hand and dragged her inside, tied her hands and mouth and undressed her,’’ the prosecutor told the court.
He said the suspect thereafter defiled the victim and dropped her inside her compound over the fence.
Magistrate Olu Bamidele ordered the remand of the accused at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for a period of 30 days pending the completion of police investigation. Bamidele adjourned the case to May 25, 2022, for further mention.
