Gara Gombe to establish athletics academy

In an effort to boost the game of athletics in Gombe State, the Chairman, Gombe State Athletics Association, Hon Ahmed Shuaibu Gara is set to establish an athletics academy.

Daily Trust gathered that 28 athletes that participated in the just concluded Gombe 2023 Inter Primary Schools athletics Championship competitions will be among the academy’s pioneer students.

Gara revealed this after the successful Inter Primary Schools athletics competition in which 36 out of 38 primary schools in Gombe Local Government participated.

He explained that when the academy becomes functional, learning materials, which include sixty leaves of exercise books, school Bags, cleaner and 100 pieces of sharpeners, 200 pieces of pencil would be provided.

He added that an eleven man committee would be constituted to handle the affairs of the academy, while free medical insurance cover will be provided.

Gara explained that 3 set of canvass and t-shirt will be provided for training, in addition to 2 tins of Milo/Bournvita in two months, 1 tin of sugar, 1 tin of glucose, 2 cartons of indomie noodle, and a crate of eggs monthly.

He called on headmasters and game masters of various schools to be alert as they will be contacted for discussion with the Local Education Authority.

Gara further thanked parents for allowing their children to participate in the just concluded Inter Primary Schools athletics while commending Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment towards sporting activities in the state.

The association chairman also thanked Hon Usman Aliyu Ashaka who is the ALGON chairman Gombe State for contributing two hundred thousand naira (N200, 000).
