The Chairman of Gombe State Amateur Athletics Association, Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, has reiterated his commitment to the development of the sport in the state.

Represented by the association’s Technical Adviser, Prince Simon Ayuba, Gombe made the pledge when distributing clothing materials to athletes who represented Gombe state at the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.

The gifts came in bundles of wrappers and brocade materials in what the state’s athletics boss described as a token of appreciation for the athletes’ effort at the bi-annual festival.

Gombe said the athletes should resume camping after the New Year break to commence preparations for the next sports festival to be held in Abeokuta in Ogun State in 2024.

“I am proud of you. Even though your overall performance at the sports festival was not encouraging enough, I see prospects in all of you and I am willing to help us achieve success in subsequent competitions.

“Considering the time we were inaugurated, I wouldn’t want to take full responsibility for how Team Gombe athletics fared in Asaba but I will lay a solid foundation for podium finishes in future.

“I am fully committed to my words and very soon, I will unfold my comprehensive programme for athletics development in Gombe state,” he said.
