Salihu Tanko Yakassai, a former aide to the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside his supporters have officially joined the opposition Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Salihu alongside his associates, Alhaji Imrana Jino from Katsina State and Ibrahim Baba Inuwa from Adamawa State, were welcomed into the party in a colourful ceremony at the party’s headquarters in Abuja presided over by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Falalu Bello.

Salihu, who recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was earlier suspended by the Kano State governor for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking shortly after receiving them into the party, the chairman said the party remains open to all those that share the ideals and dreams of the oldest party in the country.

He assured the decampees and their followers that they are now bonafide members of the party, and are entitled to all privileges in the party.

The chairman said ahead of the 2023 general elections, they have been approached by many political parties for alliances and mergers, adding that some of the issues militating against the mergers were “the fact that we are not prepared to change the name and logo of the party.”

He also announced that the party will be holding its convention today to elect new officials who will run the affairs of the party.

Responding on behalf of his associates and supporters, Salihu Yakassai said they have been admiring leaders of the PRP from the sidelines and are now happy to be part of the party.
