A total of 47 amateur football teams in Kano State are smiling to the banks after the Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Tuesday, distributed cheques worth N96m to the clubs to assist them in their preparations for the 2021/2022 season.
Governor Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna at the elaborate ceremony which was held at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano donated N3m to each of the team amateur Division One clubs, 29 Division Two clubs got N2m each while eight Division 3 clubs received N1m each.
“This is a promise made and fulfilled by the State Government. We appreciate the club owners for their efforts in managing the teams and also for engaging the youths as this will help in keeping them away from social vices.
“We also appreciate the efforts of the State Football Association for initiating standard tournaments for the youths,” said Ganduje.
He, therefore, assured the clubs of sustained support and commitment to sports development in the state.
The Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, described the cash donations as a human development initiative by the Ganduje administration to promote sports activities.
The Chairman of Kano Football Association, Sharu Rabi’u Ahlan and Chairman of Clever Warriors football club, Dr.Najib Kurawa, also commended the government for giving support to the clubs.
