The race for 2019 elections continued yesterday with the emergence of more governorship candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – the two leading political parties in the country.
Daily Trust reports that some of the candidates are sitting governors who are seeking a second term.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, who is APC’s sole aspirant in the state, was declared the winner by the chief returning officer of the primary election, Mr Pius Odudu, with 2,740,847 votes.
The governor commended the peaceful conduct of the poll and party members for their support for his second term bid.
Two aspirants are laying claim to APC governorship ticket in Rivers after holding parallel primaries in Port Harcourt yesterday. The faction led by Flag Amachree Ojukaye, which is supported by Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, produced Arch. Tonye Cole with 3,329 votes.
Another faction led by Peter Odike produced Sen. Magnus Abe with 144, 292 votes.
Brig. General Lawal Jafaru Isa (rtd) supervised the exercise conducted by the Amaechi faction.
Masari wins in Katsina
Governor Aminu Masari won the APC ticket in Katsina, said the electoral committee headed by Dr. Isah Adamu. Masari polled 5,562 votes while Abubakar Samaila Isa got 8 votes and Garba Sani Dankani one vote.
Ekere gets A/Ibom APC ticket
The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, has emerged winner of the governorship primary of the APC in Akwa Ibom State.
Yamah Momoh, chairman of the election committee, said Ekere polled 160,458 votes to defeat Barr. Bassey Dan-Abia, who trailed with 4,189 votes in the direct primary.
A former Sen. John Udoedehe, finished third with 2,015 votes, closely followed by Dr. Edet Efretuei who scored 1,234.
4 quit for Adelabu in Oyo
A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CNB), Adebayo Adelabu, has emerged the APC candidate in Oyo State, according to Demola Seriki, the presiding officer. Adelabu polled 4,889.
A former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, polled 65 votes and a former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azzez Adeduntan polled seven. The two had earlier withdrawn from the race.
Prof. Zulum wins Borno APC primary
Prof Babagana Umara Zulum emerged winner of the Borno APC governorship primary with 4,432 votes, beating Idris Mamman Durkwa, who polled 114 votes.
Kashim Imam who scored 20 votes; Mustapha Baba Shehuri, 1; Amb. Ahmed Jidda,1; Muhammad Magira Atom, 1; Gambo Lawan, 2; Umar Alkali (NASCO), 0; Abba Jato, 0; Umara Kumalia, 0; while 317 invalid votes were recorded.
Those who withdrew from the race and expressed support for Zulum are Kaka Shehu Lawan, Sen. Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai, Sen. Habu Kyari, Mohammed Makintami, Adamu Shettima Yuguda Dibal, Adamu Lawan Zaufanjimba, Alh. Mai Sheriff, Baba Gana Tijjani Banki, Mohammed Liman and Mustapha Fannarambe.
Maimala wins in Yobe
The National Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Maimala Buni, won the APC ticket in Yobe State.
The APC election committee Chairman, Alhaji Umar Lawan Kareto, said Buni polled 2,797 votes to defeat four other contestants.
Rep Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa emerged second with 23 votes; while Alhaji Umar Ali and Dr. Aji Kolomi came third and fourth with eight and four votes respectively.
Sule gets APC nod in Nasarawa
The Group Managing Director of Dangote Sugar Company, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has emerged the governorship candidate of the APC in Nasarawa State.
Chairman of APC governorship primary in the state, Abdullahi Adamu Kandido, said Sule scored 926 votes to defeat Hon. Ahmed Wadada Aliyu who scored 519 votes, and Dep. Gov. Silas Ali Agara who got 356 votes.
Sule is the choice of Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Ombugadu gets PDP ticket in Nasarawa
Rep David Emmanuel Ombugadu (Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba), won the governorship primary of the PDP in Nasarawa State.
Chairman of the PDP primary election committee, Emmanuel Anyanwu, said Ombugadu scored 745 votes to defeat Solomon Ewuga, who scored 551 votes.
Sen. Philip Gyunka scored 123, a former Deputy Governor, Damishi Barau Luka, got 18 votes and Sen. Patricia Akwashiki got no vote.
Fintiri is PDP torchbearer in Adamawa
A former Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has emerged winner in the PDP governorship primary in the state.
PDP Returning Officer, Adamu Shuaibu, said Fintiri scored 1,656 votes.
Chief Protocol Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Amb. Jamil Zubairu, scored 465 votes to come second, while former Governor, Bala Nggilari, got 76 votes.
Meanwhile, Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla expressed dismay over the postponement of the APC primary to Thursday, advising his supporters to remain calm.
Badaru gets APC’s ticket
Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar won the APC ticket in Jigawa State with 3,123 votes ahead of Yusuf Ubale Hashim, who scored 54 votes.
Sen. Abubakar Sadiq Yar’Adua, the presiding officer, said 3,828 delegates were accredited for the primary.
Ringim beats Birnin Kudu for PDP’s
Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Ringim has been declared winner of the Jigawa State PDP primary after scoring 2038 votes.
The Returning Officer, Olademeji Fabiyi, said Tijjani Ibrahim Kiyawa came second with 394 votes, Hussaini Abdulkadir Namadi came third with 154, while a former Governor of the state, Ali Sa’ad Birnin Kudu, scored 30.
Galaudu gets PDP’s ticket in Kebbi
Senator Isah Galaudu has won the PDP primary in Kebbi State. The former Chief of Staff to the Senate President polled 1,072 votes to beat three others.
Sen. Umar Tafida getting 720 votes to come second; Alhaji Buhari Bala, a former PDP national treasurer, got 322 votes, while Alhaji Abubakar Malam got 28 votes.
Ortom gets PDP’s ticket in Benue
Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, expressed gratitude to the PDP in his acceptance speech for receiving him back to its fold after his three-year sojourn in the APC, a platform he accused of making it difficult for him to exhibit his leadership qualities.
Ashiru wins Kaduna PDP ticket
A former member of the House of Representatives, Isa Ashiru Kudan, has emerged winner of the PDP governorship primary in Kaduna State.
Ashiru polled 1,330 votes out of 2,654 to beat Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi who polled 564 votes and Mohammed Sani Sidi who garnered 560.
Yahaya clinches Gombe APC ticket
In Gombe, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya defeated eight other contestants for the APC ticket.
The aspirants defeated former Minister of Transport, former senator Idris Abdullahi Umar, immediate past National Youth Leader of the APC, Dasuki Ibrahim Jalo Waziri, and six others.
Chairman of the election committee, Alhaji Habu Bawuro, said Inuwa polled 859 votes out of 1,718 to clinch the ticket.
Bawuro said his closest rival, Muhammad Jibrin Barde, scored 463, Umar Farouk Bamusa, 139; Sen. Idris Abdullahi Umar, 68; Alhaji Umar Kwairanga, 54; Abubakar Habu Mu’azu, 49; Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo Waziri, 28; Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, 9; and Aliyu Haidar Abubakar five.
Useni clinches Plateau PDP ticket
Senator Jeremiah Useni clinched the PDP ticket in Plateau State beating 12 others with a total of 1,018 votes.
Hon. Johnbull Shekarau got 340 votes, followed by Sen. Victor Lar with 249 votes. Hon. George Daika scored 199 votes, Hon. Nicholas Kemi Nshe 177 votes while Dr. Ponyah Ibrahim scored 62 and Godfrey Bawa 35.
