The governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Saturday endorsed the maiden edition of the military and para-military games in the state.
While inaugurating the competition at the Sani Abacha stadium Kofar-mata, the governor described sports as the synergy builder between different security formations in the state just as he noted that the ‘Service Games 2021’ was timely as the athletes would use the games to increase the synergy between them.
“There is no doubt from what I saw during the march past that the formations are ready for healthy competition.
“We are proud of you and people of Kano are also proud of you and I also believe this is the beginning of building synergy between different security formations, military and para military alike,” he said.
Earlier in his address, the chairman Kano State Sports commission Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima said the events are organized to build strong relationship between security formations.
“Kano state sports commission is highly interested in searching and grooming young talents that will be representing the state in any sporting events.
“I’m very optimistic that if our talents undergo rigorous training they will definitely became national assets,” he said.
A total of 618 athletes will compete in athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, golf judo, table tennis and volleyball.
Nigerian military and para-military organisations like the Army, Air force, Police Force, Customs Service, Immigration Service, Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), EFCC, FRSC, VIO and a host of others are taking part in the one week event which ends on August 7.
