The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a blueprint for the political liberation of the South East.

Ganduje disclosed this on Wednesday when stakeholders from the zone paid him a visit at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Recall that the South East zone has consistently lamented what it describes as marginalisation in the political equation of the country.

Addressing the gathering, Ganduje said, “I am so delighted; I am very very happy. Today is like a Sallah day. A Sallah day to a Muslim is like Christmas day to a Christian. The calibre of people that are here from Anambra and not only from Anambra State, but the South-East geopolitical zone. I am so happy that it is in the name of APC.

“I will like to let you know that Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved our blueprint for political liberation of South-East to the APC. He has approved the political emancipation; he has approved the political de-marginalisation of the South-East.

“Be with one voice because if you speak with one voice, your voice will be bigger, wider for the negotiation for the political leadership of this country. There is no unity and you need unity in diversity. We need you to be united and deliberately the party in Anambra State we need a change, revolution of South-East. We thank you for your cooperation.”

Similarly, Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, said it is important for the APC to become a political vehicle in the South East for the region to be fully integrated into the national project.

He said, “We are determined in our region to be part and parcel of the Nigerian politics. Consistent to that we are going to do our best to make sure that the five states in the South Eastern region are dominated by APC by endearing our party to the people of the South-East region.”

In his remarks, the Anambra State chairman of the APC, Basil Ejidike, said the essence of the visit was to inform Ganduje and the National Working Committee (NWC) of their preparations ahead of the 2025 off-season election in Anambra State, and to congratulate the national chairman on his emergence as the party’s helmsman.

“The party at the state level is poised to going into the election with sincere vigour, and is ready to deploy all democratic arsenals as well as deploy the enormous human capital available, to win that very important election.

“We appreciate the importance of Anambra State as a socio-political and economic meeting point of South East and therefore cannot afford to gamble with the coming opportunity to take over the government house Awka.”

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who recently defected from the Young Progressive Party  (YPP) to the APC was part of the visit.
