The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said the funds spent on naira redesign should have been used to resolve ASUU crisis.
Sowore stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
He discussed naira redesigning and the inflation in the country.
Comparing the United States and Nigeria, Sowore said, “In the US when it has got to a point where they were planning to make a law, I don’t know if they eventually made that law to reduce inflation. They are concerned about not just election, but about the ability of their citizens to cope with inflation rate and they started adjusting a number of things not just a law that says that inflation must remain at this point.

“They are concerned about job, employment, loses; they are also concerned about the manpower ruining the economic affairs. These are the issues you get from leaders concerned about the welfare of their people not the redesigning of the naira which cost us N218billion. We could have given that money to ASUU.”
However, the government has not made the amount spent on naira redesign public and is therefore unclear how Sowore came out the figure.
