In their efforts to weed out criminals elements among them, Fulani herdsmen in Taraba State have set up committees in the 16 local government areas of the state to monitor and expose all criminal elements to security agents.

The committees will work along with police and members of the Vigilante to achieve the desired results.

The Chairman of Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Taraba State branch, Sahabi Tukur disclosed this during a meeting with the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abimbola Sokoya in Jalingo.

Sahabi Tukur said the setting up of the committee, was in response to the pledge they made before the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda, to weed out criminal elements among them and all Fulani in the state have endorsed the arrangements.

He said the committee members, along with vigilantes, would monitor and arrest all criminals and hand them over to the police for prosecution.

The chairman stated that the leadership of Fulani including Hardos and Jauros were concerned over criminal activities of some of their people and reaffirmed their commitment and desire to bring sanity among Fulani herdsmen.

He said, however, the security agents should stop arresting innocent Fulani pointing out that the Fulani were like any other ethnic groups which have bad eggs among them.

“It is unfair to categorise all Fulani as kidnappers or bandits, because even the Fulani too, are victims of kidnapping, harassment, killing and other forms of injustice”.

He assured the police commissioner of the leadership’s support and cooperation to police and all security agencies in the fight against insecurity in Taraba State and in the country.

Mr Abimbola Sokoya said he was happy that the rate of kidnapping has dropped in the Jalingo area since the Emir’s warning.

He welcomed the setting up of the committee and assured them of the command’s support.

He also assured that no innocent Fulani man will suffer at the hand of the police.
