A coalition of legal practitioners under the auspices of Right Without Violence has said that the current trend of disparaging people of Fulani extraction is dangerous for Nigeria’s unity.
The coordinator of the group, Dr. Ahmed Jibril, said in Zaria that the Federal Government needed to take urgent measures to bring the lingering herders/farmers crisis to an end.
He said, “Our survival as a nation is at stake. We cannot sit down helplessly and watch. Federal Government must take urgent steps to avert bloodshed in Nigeria. Fulani are bonafide citizens of Nigeria and they have the right to live anywhere in Nigeria just like any other Nigerian.
“We shouldn’t allow Nigeria to be like Rwanda, Burundi or Liberia where ethnicity threw them into prolonged crisis.
The signing of anti-grazing law by Benue and Taraba states is dangerous and total violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
