Fuji Musician to FG: Check influx of morally corrupt songs

An Abeokuta-based popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Sefiu Alao Adekunle, has called on the Federal Government to establish a music censors board to check the influx of morally corrupt songs in the country.

The music star who made the call in Abeokuta, Ogun State, attributed the high level of moral decadence, corruption and crime among Nigerian youths to morally corrupt songs in the society.

He argued that the Nigeria music industry like the film industry must also have a censors board that will be responsible for checking songs before they are released into public space.

Adekunle stressed the urgent need for stakeholders in the music industry to come together and restructure the industry.

According to him, Nigeria loses billions of naira in revenue from the industry “because it is not well structured like other developed countries of the world.”

He said, the drive for money and fame by Nigerian musicians has contributed to the high rate of moral decadence in the society.

According to him, many Nigerian music artistes want fame and money quick and they can do anything, including singing with vulgar languages to achieve that. This, he said is why every artiste is joining the band wagon “because all of us want to be popular and make money and the fastest way to achieve that, is by singing commercial songs.”

The fuji star, popularly called Baba Oko, also blamed the audience for contributing to the influx of morally corrupt songs.
