Fuel scarcity: TUC threatens strike

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) says it will soon direct workers in statutory corporations and government-owned establishments to stop going to work if the challenge of fuel scarcity persists in the next few days.

It urged President Muhammadu Buhari to identify and punish those who caused the scarcity.

TUC National Treasurer, Mohammad Yunusa, said this in an interview with reporters in Abuja at the weekend during a delegate conference of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC).

Commenting on the ongoing one-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, he said: ‘’The major problem unionism has in Nigeria is that the governments do not listen. You can’t have constructive engagements with government in Nigeria.

‘’Let’s look at the case of ASUU, they are talking about the agreement they entered with Federal Government many years back, and up till now, government has not fulfilled it.

‘’So, over the years, because there is no constructive engagements, it is when you call out your members for strike that government will listen to you.’’
