Fuel queues surface in Abuja

Fuel queues reappeared in some filling stations in the central districts of Abuja on Tuesday afternoon, a situation that has been attributed to panic buying.

Total station located in Area 11, Oando at Central Area by National Hospital and some others did not dispense the product by afternoon, some motorists said.

Queues began to build up by afternoon at some others fuel stations that dispensed the product. One motorist said he was lucky to buy without hitches at a Total filling station located at Central Business District by American Embassy before news went round town.

NNPC Super-Mega stations located on Kubwa Expressway dispensed product to motorists as at this morning when our reporter drove by.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has called on members of the public to avoid panic buying of petrol as there was enough stock of the product to keep the entire country wet for 23 days.

The NNPC had issued a statement on ,monday dismissing rumour of impending reduction in the price of fuel fom N87 to N54 per liter.

The corporation gave this assurance against the backdrop of emerging queues noticed at some filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, arising from rumours of impending scarcity.

It explained, in a statement, that besides the recent meeting of the Management of the Corporation with members of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) to rally them for the uninterrupted fuel supply policy of the administration, it has set up a monitoring team at the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) to check sharp practices that could breach the distribution and supply system.

It put the quantity of petrol stock in its depots across the country at 927,461,000 litres which is enough to serve the country for the next 23 days if no drop of the product is imported within the period.
