The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it sacked 63 of its personnel over corruption charges in 2016.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja during a press conference, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi said the affected officers were punished for offences such as extorting motorist.
He said 15 officers had their ranks reduced, 97 officers were discharged, 15 officers were warned, 1 was reprimanded amongst other officers affected hence calling on the public to always report any corrupt officer.
Oyeyemi disclosed that between December 19th, 2016 and January 15th, 2017, the corps recorded 790 Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) 6, 069 people were involved and 461 were killed, while 2, 895 were injured.
Oyeyemi said there was no going back on full enforcement of the installation of the speed limiting device from 1st February, 2017.
He said during the planned closure of the Nnamdi International Airport, Abuja and diversion of flights to Kaduna Airport, the corps has created eight additional FRSC out-post along the route from the Kaduna Airport to Abuja.
